We are going on the Saturday, got in free last year as was on a supplier freebie to watch the Top Gear show, it was on at the same time, and they allowed Top Gear ticket holders into the Classic Car show, trouble was that we didn't know in advance so had to race round Sad

I'm going on the Friday and looking forward to it. On a separate note I cannot understand why people consider it is expensive? Let's say it's approx £20 to get in and that includes the programme guide. It's a massive show across several halls with large club stands and small trade stands an auto-jumble and plenty more. There's certainly enough there to occupy you for a full day so I'd love to know where else you get a day's entertainment for £20. Indeed what can you get for £20 these days? Okay, so you have to park your car (or go by train or park for free a couple of stops down the line) but come on you lot what would you expect to pay! Shocked

It may be the best we've got (in the UK that is) but it's not a patch on Techno Classica in size or content.

Doesn't really answer my point though, it's a UK show so you can only relate the cost to other UK events. So, what do you expect for £20 or to put it another way how much would you expect to pay and feel it's correctly priced?

I agree with Rich5ltr, I don't think its pricey, I bought a round of drinks for 3 people in a London bar last week, that cost me £21.86 and they lasted 15 mins Shocked .... as I was with customers I also bought the next round.........

But it's not £20, is it? I take Gael as she's very keen on classic cars. We need to park our car, we need to eat and drink too. Add it all together and it's easily £60-£70. Suddenly it's not quite such good value - and that's quite apart from the 'NEC tax' on all the autojumble prices. Of course we could always lug our own food and drink around until lunchtime to save a few pounds I suppose.

£15 a ticket and £7 for the car park is about right in my view.

Confused So with your 'Club Discount' you can get in Sat or Sun for £16.50 so entry is £1.50 too expensive and parking is overpriced by £3 so all in it's overpriced by £4.50... Confused

As for food there's loads of cheap and cheerful stuff like pasties & pies etc., I usually get something at the Ace Cafe bit for about a fiver.

As for the total cost for two of you being double, well strangely it always costs me twice as much when I take my wife somewhere too Laughing

I just don't see it as such good value as others seem to, perhaps going to shows abroad has ruined it for me.

Moving on, I've never been to Techno Essen but fancied going so it that the one you recommend? However... even if that's just few Euros to get in with cheap frankfurters and sauerkraut it will cost €200+ in train fares and a hotel room...

We will be there Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday as Gracie is on the Volvo Owers Club stand, so need to start polishing tomorrow to get her ready then do it all again Thursday after the drive, so fingers crossed we have good weather for the journey. Will try and come and say hello.

Hi

It is Simon and Jayne but you could ask for Gracie as most people call her that, but then again she will be the only blue amazon estate on the stand Very Happy

Will be there Saturday and Sunday. I was there last year and one day was not enough to see it all, so going for 2 days this time. Its was worth every penny last year, even after adding diesel (600mile round trip) and hotel costs.

We take our caravan to a site about 10 miles out, so accomodation isn't an issue, and I must admit that I don't find the entrance fee exccesive nowadays. With the extra halls this year it might be struggle to do it all in one day, Saturday, but two days would be expensive.
Having said that, I did Goodwood in September, and that was £56.....................!!!!
But, as always, it's my chouice to attend.

For me the problem with the price is like the price of everything else - it's just crept up over the years and now when you look at it, it's quite expensive. But it's not terrible, and even though the parking has gone from expensive to a rip-off, it's only a couple of quid extra. We try to get a car full to share the diesel and parking costs, and take advantage of advance tickets to get the best deal.

Parking and food are expensive because it's a captive market, just like motorway service areas. You have to be careful in their restaurants - if you buy fish, chips and peas (for example) because that's what the menu says, but you don't intend to eat the peas because, like me, you consider peas to be devils work, don't get the peas. They'll charge you less - it drops the price by quite a bit, as well. I think last time it dropped almost a quid off the meal price, for not taking something I wasn't going to eat. Don't assume you'll get charged the menu price for the full meal.
