| It should go bad in just after a year. Maybe after 5 years. |

Bought a new Laptop a month or three ago, all singing all dancing, Expensive!
Windows 8.... Disaster!
It currently lives under my bed, and has been used for under a week. Back to my 6 year old machine, which keeps telling me Virtual memory is Too low, however 16 internet windows and it is still 10 times faster than the new one with 5 open.
Anyone want a super modern Laptop with Windows 8? For sale, cheap..... |

I wouldn't mind a laptop, but maybe not that one

Windows 8 is pathetic. I had a very low cost upgrade for this machine when I bought it nearly 2 years ago and it was horrendous to use. After 4 days I reinstalled windows 7 and haven't had any problems since.
For the unused expensive machine, it is probably worth spending £50 to buy win 7 rather than consigning it to live under the bed |

Hi Rick,
Lots of sites put nasty marketing things on your machine to let them know whether they could sell you something.
These really slowed down my laptop until I loaded NoScript. You do need to allow some sites temporarily but it's a big improvement.

My principal PC is an IBM laptop. For last 5 years a T23 pent III with 750M of RAM and a 40G hard drive running XP. I've been running short of hard drive for some time now so just bought a T61 with 2M of RAM and 80G HDD running Win7.
I've transferred all my files and almost all of my programs to the new (to me) machine and it's very much faster. I think this is largely because I started from a clean install but I think it was well worth the £85 it cost me.
The more restricted selection of (free) programs and the amazing loss of a back key would put me off an Apple product.

These days I store all my files; docs & pics with a "reliable" cloud provider, no need for large local storage any more, no need to back up.........With the development of google / amazon and other web apps, in the future I'll need nothing more than a local device with a browser ...happy days

I've got quite a lot of photos on Google+ and will probably resist filling up my HDD with futures but I don't altogether trust free cloud storage so I treat my camera SD cards as permanent back-up.

I don't use free cloud storage for anything valuable or important...In most cases you are signing over any of your ip to them ..use a reputable supplier and pay for it

Wondered why I had a mail of you suggesting that this new band "The Police" may be successful
