Gentlemen,

Thanks to you all for reassuring me that it is best for me to plod on with my old "Toshette" (a very small Toshiba laptop), running XP, that I purchased 7 years ago.

I understand it! I have no interest I IT at all and just want a device that allows me to send and receive emails and surf the web.

I cannot get on with touch screens. My apparently clumsy, fat fingers have the gift of touching what I should not, i.e. the screen, when viewing. So I fear this Toshette may have to see me out as it appears touch screens are standard nowadays, no?

Perhaps I was born a couple of centuries too late.......

My laptop is also an elderly Toshiba L300D,Dipster, although with W7Pro installed. Many times I've been glad I had it, so yes, hang on to your lap top. All the best for the festive season, cheers,JD.

I work for an IT company, but have no interest in the technology other than our ability to sell lots of it! And it supporting the business! I have no idea what version of Windows I'm on!!! Or the model of my laptop. What I do know us that there are security and compatibility requirements that eventually drive everyone to upgrade; if security updates are unavailable because of out of date opperating systems , then there will be limitations or risk exposure with for example ones banking app.

To my mind I just want a dumb device at home with an Internet conection and everything else on subscription, I really don't want the hassle of having to perform upgrades!

I run no risk of banking problems as I refuse to do any banking on line. I just do not have any faith in it.

I don't work for and IT company and I suffered MSDos and Windows for twenty years before switching to Apple which I did in 2006. What a difference!

Now an iPad does all including banking online for company and home. An Apple TV is the centre of my photos, music, TV and Music, so I almost never watch ordinary TV anymore. I can't stand the BBC and I'd rather pay iTunes for an ITV drama than watch adverts and I don't want a commuter at home. I hate them, Windows especially.

When I'm out I can do everything on an iPhone 6 including watching TV programs, Movies, photos and listening to 110,000 radio stations, taking photos, recording noise in engines, banking, emailing and web browsing.

Phones or tablets are all anyone needs, but don't buy cheap.
