So that's a 50% mark up. What have they done to deserve it? Nothing but chance their hand.

Of course most people would not buy a car at auction unless it was simply as an investment but this is not in that market.

Has the dealer pulled it off...only time will tell .

I know people have to make a living but I just don't agree with this. I also note that the dealer after adding their mark up then claims the car is a bargain.

Of his 50% mark up, 20% will go to the VAT man, so his maximum profit will be £1500, he has bought the car with zero warranty, has to sell it with some sort of warranty, has to transport it to his premises, cover all the running cost of a dealership, will probably be negotiated down, so at best is going to make a few hundred quid, with the risk that it may sit in his dealership for months or worse have to sell at a loss!

Thats a lot to do for a few hundred!

Added to which, you can now give the car a thorough inspection and test drive it, facilities that are unavailable at an auction; you also have some comeback if the car is not accurately described, again not something you have with an auction sale.
We all agreed the ?5000 auction figure looked like a bargain, does the ?7500 dealer price look expensive, or just a reasonable price to bargain against?
