And all to save the planet hmm... if the government were serious about carbon footprints why would they allow the pollution - just so long as you can afford it?

If a Bentley Arnage for example does around 8mpg then is that seen as acceptable to our government as long as the owner can afford the fuel bills, (and thus the tax duty) or should any new private vehicle capable of less than say - 35mpg be banned from manufacture?

I'll take all this green nonsense seriously when Aston Martins, and the like are made to achieve 35mpg plus straight from the factory, until then I'll continue to suffer insufferable people telling me that my 50+ mpg Citroen 2cv is 'damaging the planet'. Evil or Very Mad

Sorry Old Gto, I can't sympathise with you when you are complaining of gas reaching 32p per litre!

We are talking of £1.00 per litre in Europe!

Yes, I`ve heard before of the pounding you guys take not only on petrol prices, but on classic vehicles and parts as well. I don`t know the exact numbers, but if our gas is $3.00 per US gallon, that equates to about $7.00 (or more?) to you.
I just don`t see HOW you do it! I`d have to figure out how to fix an umbrella to a bicycle if gas got that high here!

It depends if you want to have your wage index linked to petrol or not!

Try the same equation with another item, beer for example. As recently as 1978 you could buy four pints of beer for just one pound, and the average weekly wage was around £110, so that's 440 pints then.

440 pints today would cost you around £1100 so maybe I'd rather index-link my wages to the cost of beer than petrol! Cool (hic)

At the beginning of last week Tesco were £132.9 per litre. Today it is £136.9 per litre. Shocked Shocked 4p in a week and the budget isnt too far away.

I stopped using supermarket fuel when I found I was needing an extra tank of fuel a month to get to work.

The company I was driving for banned us from using supermarket fuel as he was losing thousands of miles a year with the fleet

Not always cheaper to buy cheap, Ask my mate who spent a fortnight in Saudi Arabia waiting for parts when broken down in his Lorry, lost more than the saving on cheaper parts.

How strange, I've always used supermarket fuel except for those very rare occasions when I've been nowhere near one or abroad. I've never noticed any deterioration in performance or economy when using Tesco diesel - conversely, I haven't noticed any improvement when not using it. In my Riley 1.5, Tesco Momentun99 is the best petrol I've ever put in it.
