Back in 1988 I think it was Pink Floyd's 'The wall' album featured lyrics such as "We don't need no ed-u-cay-shun" and "Hey! Teacher - leave them(sic) kids alone".

Actually, it was 1979!

And it doesn't stop there...

In the 90's, we had the Spice Girls wearing skirts up to their eyebrows singing: "I know what you want, what you really, really want", plus other lyrics by Ace Of Bass such as: "All that she wants is another baby, he's gone tomorrow". Some may argue these were good tunes & maybe they were, but the messages they put across to their female fans was not thought through.

Now, we are suffering the consequences of youngsters with little or no respect, having been brought up by a single parent, namely, these silly girls who were influenced by their 'idols'.

God, I sound old...

Going back to the comment about Hotel California, reminds me of Mike Hardings version ''Hotel Transylvania.'' Another brilliant comedian that never swore.

Anyone remember the Beatles number ''Obladi-oblada'' That was banned because of one word. Marmalade changed the word, and had a big hit....

Amazing, isn't it?

The single 'Another Brick In The Wall Pt 2' was Number 1 of Christmas 79/80!

Some brilliant music appeared in those two years. They knew how to write lyrics, that's for sure.

Leonard Cohen must be 74 this year and that is worrying. Whoever could write words like: "In Vienna there's ten pretty women, there's a shoulder where death comes to cry, and a lobby with nine hundred windows and a tree where the doves go to die".... must be congratulated for bringing so much joy into the world. (apologies, of course to Fredrico Garcia Lorca).
But it's amazing how the words of poets and lyricists tend to stick in your mind for life... not so the grunts, shouts and obscenities that pass as lyrics to modern pop music... (goes into Victor Meldrew mode) Mad
