Paint it blue, it shouldn't be too difficult to get a close enough match to the original colour

Plus lots and lots of Pops are black, a blue one should look a lot nicer and distinctive too! Smile

My votes for the Blue, and why bother so much about originality if you were prepared to paint it black?

Use the Pompadour blue if you like it, or even a similar modern colour.

Make your car look attractive and yet in a tone passable for period colour (no metallics) and take no note of the anoraks that tell you (usually in nasal tones) that "the '55 wasn't specified in that colour Y'know".

There! -solved...go do it! Wink

They all remind me of Brian Sewell the art critic!

My instinctive reaction is "What the hell has it got to do with you?" Razz

Hi

I am a bit like that with everything, if I am happy with it, who cares what people think! I dress how I want, and play with the toys I want to, my family, say you will get laughed at, but does it look like I care! Another question I get is, why don't you have any nivce clothes, answer, I do they are all nice, but in their oppinion once I have got oil on them, weld spatter burns, paint, melted the zips, set on fire etc, they are not nice, but I am still happy!

Sorry for going off topic, rant over!!

hehe Laughing

Cheers

Dave

I really cant see a problem with using a paint colour that although not dead on accurate is at least an approximation of the original.

What does look wrong is painting a car in a colour it was never produced in, unless of course it's a modified or custom car.
There are some colours that certain cars just don't look right in. Citroen 2cv's look awful in metallic colours for example, and I've never though Bright Red Morris Minors sit well either.

Maybe it's just me.. Rolling Eyes

Dont think so O-N, its not you at all.

in my humble opinion, classic cars have a soul. And part of that soul is the colour. Therefore, some cars suit say, metallics, others dont. As you quite rightly point out. The thing that I've been doing for a while now is painting cars in the nearest commonly available colour. That way, I can go into a car accessory shop, and buy a matching aerosol to repair that scratch I've just done.

To explain this a little further, its a bit backward here and we cant go into say, our version of Halfords and get an aerosol filled to our requirements....

nope I agree entirely, same goes for cars with hideously (IMHO) over-restored interiors. I've seen photos of Devons and A30s painted bright red, and somehow like you say with Minors, they just don't look right if not painted a dull 50s colour!!! as for interiors, there was a Devon on fleabay a while back, and the interior had been fully re-done (no doubt at great ££) in bright white leather, with contrasting piping! Shocked

I've been looking through Bill Ballard's handy book on sidevalve Fords, it lists the following blues applicable to the 103E Pop:

1956-1959 Norwich Blue - colour code M
1957-1959 Richmond Blue - code AA
1953-1957 Winchester Blue - code H

Pompadour blue is listed as a 100E/300E/107E colour, but no mention of it for the 103E range..

Although Volkswagen and not Ford colours this site http://www.pre67vw.com/colours/ has a good range of 'classic friendly' colours, and it gives the paint codes should you want to reproduce one.
