The Coupe was a Peerless - a fibreglass and ally coupe built on a TR3/4 chassis.
E-V, I couldn't find an internet presence for the touring group, but found their address on a steam fair site where they were exhibiting:

If you make contact, please let us know all about them. _________________ Brian

Brian,
Thanks for that. I fancied building a Peerless in the 60s but that one looked more like an MGB at the front. The one in the clip would probably be 70-ish. Very pretty.

Hi
I'm not so sure about the Peerless, none of the ones on here http://www.peerless-gt.co.uk/gallery.html
have quite such a full width grill as the one on the film, nor do they have the slightly pointed forward aspect to the middle of the bonnet and grill top line. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Just watched it on iplayer, and was delighted to note the shot of the Royale Caravan stand at the 1981(?) show. If it was 1981, our club president's van was there, on the stand.
Overall, I thought itwas good entertainment. And what price pitching in sight of the Arc de Triomphe? |

You are absolutely right it is not a Peerless. I must have blinked and missed the frontal shot, I saw the small rear fins and jumped to the wrong conclusion.
So what is it? _________________ Brian

While posting the above Scotty sent me a pm:
Hi Brian,
Re the mystery car in the caravan tv program post - your identity re Peerless is close, however may I suggest its an Ogle 1.5, produced 1960 - 62.
It was based on a Riley 1.5 Saloon, with the majority of it's body cut off. John Tojeiro had a hand in it with the engineering of the rear chassis. Eight were made, costing £1574 which was too expensive, a Riley 1.5 cost £816.
The car was abandoned in favour of the SX 1000.
I got this info in the museum library out of the "A to Z of British Cars, 1945 - 1980" by Graham Robson, page 334. It has a nice photograph of one of the cars - 16 TVX.
I didn't want to post this info on the forum as I hate to appear as contradicting people, and especially you after being so helpful with the registation numbers. So please, if you do decide to modify your answer no need to mention me - just say you discovered more info.
Regards, Scotty (Bob).
Scotty -- you shouldn't be so modest, if I have made a mistake, which I did and admitted to it, I personally appreciate someone with more knowledge than me finding the right answer, and I am not bothered if I am contradicted. _________________ Brian

Scotty,
I remember the Ogle SX1000. I emigrated to Canada in '64 and the garage I got my first job at had a new one for sale. It had quad headlamps and quite round bulbous styling. I recall Ogle was killed driving one of these and a guy called Tom Karen took over. Their next product was the car that became the Reliant. Scimitar. The caravan is a Sprite Major which I think was an early '70s model. The caravanning fraternity can verify that. The car then must be of the 70's vintage.

That car is most definately not a Gordon Keeble.
I like it though.
Back to Caravans, we had a Sprite Musketeer in lovely brown, orange & yellow.
Nice light van.
I sold it as a tow bar on my Mercury would look silly. _________________

This is the page from the book that makes me feel its an Ogle 1.5, but I'm always open to alternative suggestions -
Scotty. |

Well done Bob. It must have been a bit of a struggle dragging a 16' van around with 1500cc.

I've just read the write up on the Ogle and was drawn to the part about the lack of torsional rigidity in the chassis. Maybe the towbar helped with this problem.
