Hello,
Good to see you are happy with your caravan after all these years. Very Happy
Your caravan looks a later model to mine, there are modifications to the fibreglass mouldings etc. Rolling Eyes
The rear window is certainly different to ours, handles and lights etc.
Do you know what year yours is Question
I would like to find out about the different models they produced, the interiors and exteriors are different on some I have seen.

Regards
Mark.

Thanks for that Mr P. Its from about 72 or 73 I think , Ive still got the peak trailer service book and the cooker and sink paperwork that came with the caravan when new and the printed date on them is 72 or 73 . Also Its got viking club Rally Plates stuck on a board from the same years so i think its about that age. It Is quite clever how they were made The front and rear panels are symetrical so they could be swapped aroud before the windows were cut out .

Hi everybody, new to the forum,we have a 1979 Viking Fibreline 1 which we tow with a 1977 Ford Granada Mk.1. The Viking was bought earlier this year from it's second owner and is in good original condition, all the paperwork was still in the Viking branded envelope. Been away a couple of times, great fun!

Interesting article in January 2011 issue of Classiscs Monthly featuring a rebuild of a Land Rover and a Viking Fibreline that the owner rebuilt and painted to match the Land Rover. Nice to see a classic caravan being included in a classic car magazine. The first show we took ours to (a local steam rally) we were amazed at the interest shown in the caravan, far more people wanted to talk about the caravan than the Granada!

We have just started refurbishment of our viking fibreline. The interior is not bad but the windows need sorting. We need to replace the seals and also the curved windows - if anyone can help with helping us locate the appropriate seal and how on earth to replace the curved windows we would be really grateful!! I have enclosed some photos - we still don't know very much about the caravan - age etc!! [img]http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z453/finandarch/caravan26.jpg[/img

Hi Finandarch, I also need just one curved window so if you get offered lots perhaps you would let me know!! Mine sadly fell out on its first journey home. It is, apparently, possible to get them made but when I tried that I found it just wouldn't fit. I gather it's very tricky to get the curve just right but good luck anyhow. I now have a thin piece of aluminium in place as a temporary measure instead. The good news is that I know of a supplier who does, or did, the correct, small size of the rubber trim. (I was told the stuff for an old Mini works but I found it too big.) I got mine about 4 years ago so I hope they are still in business. They are C O H Baines Ltd, in Tunbridge Wells. 01892 543311 www.coh-baines.co.uk
It comes in two parts, the seal and the bead to go through the middle which tightens it. The part no were IRS 0768 W/S and SF1B and it cost a huge total of £7.21! They did also sell a tool for fitting it which might be a good idea.
I'm also looking for the white capping which goes around the inside of the windows. I'm finding it v hard to get this narrow enough. Any one had any luck finding this?

The curved windows are made from perspex.
Cut some perspex to over size, mark out the centre line,(remember it is not vertical) gently heat the perspex with a hot air gun and fold over a former,( something the size of a 1 gallon drum.Heat the perspex gently whilst bending it over the former,(two people make the job easier). When you are happy with the contour you can then cut it to size to fit the apperture. That is how I did mine.

That white plastic trim that goes around the inside of many 60's and 70's van window's you were asking about I got from a shop called Gearbox in Melton Mowbray. about £11.00 a 10 meter roll, and he can get sizes down to just over the inch wide. Not seen any of the colored stuff like you have in the robin caravans (Dog Poo Brown my grandson called it) for a couple of decades now.

Hello. I purchased the white trim that fits around the window apertures from my local caravan centre,it came in rolls about 10 metres long..
I also purchased from them new rubber beading that fits inside the aliminium trim that runs around the exterior of the caravan, and also fits in the trim that is above the windows, instead of the original black I purchased a green colour to compliment the willow (green ) paintwork on the bottom half of the caravan, they sold this by the metre (£1.00).

I do not use caravan centres as a rule,as they only really want to sell items for the modern caravanner and are quite expensive, but in this instance I found them quite helpful when I told them I was restoring a 1960`s classic.
They even wanted to exhibit my historic caravan over the winter in their showroom, similar to an indoor exhibit at the classic car show, complete with a period theme outside the caravan,I am still thinking about this one,at least it would be in the warm and dry.
