Supposedly a round headlamp was cheaper than the rectangular. Fascinating to see a car producer scraped pennies wherever it could for a van version.
Same for the Commer Imp van I once owned, just one sunvisor for example. And even the choke handle (on the floor) was made of a smaller bit of plastic! _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

| Many vans had little or no chrome trim; often the radiator shell/surround would just have been painted. I think it would be interesting to study how different manufacturers have always pared back the spec for their vans. |

I wonder who will get the date and model first?

Looks like a Morris Major of 1931 except for the wheels and a few other minor bits. It is a Budd body shape and could be a American make. _________________ 1938 Morris 8 Ser II Coupe Utility (Pickup)

You are correct about the car being a 1931 Morris Oxford.
With regard to the body, it would have been made by the Pressed Steed Company which was a joint venture between William Morris and American tycoon Edward G Budd with a factory situated opposite the Morris works; hence the American influence.
(Well done for not confusing it with a Morris Isis . ) |

Here we have an action shot of the 1947 Australian GP which was won by Bill Murray in his MG TC. Here he is seen dicing with Dougal MacLachlan's MG TA special through Hells Corner at the famous Bathurst circuit.
What may also be of interest is the slightly out of focus background showing a variety of cars parked in spectator area.
What cars do you recognise?? |

Notice how most of the vehicles are American, even a Jeep on the front row. _________________ 1938 Morris 8 Ser II Coupe Utility (Pickup)

Or Australian; that's a Holden on the left, front row. _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

I think my information may be incorrect. The Holden 48-215 came out - as the name suggests - in 1948; the GP must therefore have been later than I said. |

I do not think it is a Holden but a yank tank like most of the others. The Holden was smaller. If it was new hardly likely people would be leaning on it!! _________________ 1938 Morris 8 Ser II Coupe Utility (Pickup)

Looking again...you are right! The Holden grille had thick vertical slats and was a slightly different shape. It means the 1947 date for the GP was correct after all! |

Does anyone recognise this strange configuration of the rear axle/body?
