Hi All,

I found this site only a couple of days ago. Most interesting and as I found whilst reading this post - also informative. I didn't realise there were so many of you out there interested in or owning these old 'Vikings'.

I've had one for about 14 years and have no plans to part with it! It is used regularly thoughout the year, visiting a variety of shows. It's almost all original including the linen upholstery of 1969. It still has the original 'Salou' awning too!

Incidently, in all the time I've had the 'van I've only ever seen 2 others in use. One whilst enroute to a show and another, immaculate 10ft. at a show in Wiltshire.

I was interested to read that 'Heleneva' had sourced window rubber to fit the side perspex panes. I can confirm that the company (C O H Baines) does still recognise the part numbers given in that post. A sample of rubber has been promised following a 'phone call today:-)

It seems to me that sharing of such information is priceless, therefore, for those of you with the early (About 1968/9) 2 berth 12ft Vikings that don't know; these vans have the Lockheed brakes fitted inside a (Ford 100E I beleive) 8" brake drum/hub. My brake shoes I found were from a '61-'70
Morris Minor rear axle. I also believe that similar hub/brake set-up is used on several other Viking caravans of that time but cannot be certain.

Thanks for sharing your Viking stories. If I can help out with any information, I'll be happy to do so.

Regards
R.

I am still trying to source some rubber beading to fit my viking fibreline windows. I am wondering if it is the same that has been discussed on this thread?

My viking is possibly mid-late 70's, I am not 100% sure. I will try and add a photo of the window trim.

It is the rubber seal I need as it is hardening and corroding in one place.

The 3 photos are at the top of the page.

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks.

Hello. I purchased the white trim that fits around the window apertures from my local caravan centre,it came in rolls about 10 metres long..
I also purchased from them new rubber beading that fits inside the aliminium trim that runs around the exterior of the caravan, and also fits in the trim that is above the windows, instead of the original black I purchased a green colour to compliment the willow (green ) paintwork on the bottom half of the caravan, they sold this by the metre (£1.00).

I do not use caravan centres as a rule,as they only really want to sell items for the modern caravanner and are quite expensive, but in this instance I found them quite helpful when I told them I was restoring a 1960`s classic.
They even wanted to exhibit my historic caravan over the winter in their showroom, similar to an indoor exhibit at the classic car show, complete with a period theme outside the caravan,I am still thinking about this one,at least it would be in the warm and dry.

Hi all Viking owners.
Only just joined the forum.
Have you seen the 'rebuilt' Viking for sale on Ebay?
That's different

Its a bit like Cotswold cottage meets Canary Wharf penthouse suite.
These Viking`s have really good quality oak interiors..well the early ones do like ours.
Why would you want to do this to a classic caravan...buy a new one.

Hi, sorry if this resurects an old thread, my 1978 2 berth 10ft Viking is undergoing some running repairs and is in need of a New/second hand Rubber Bellows for the Drawbar. I managed to source a New Skylight from eeco Towbars in Shelf, Halifax, and they tell me they have New/Old Stock Double Glazed Plastic Windows to fit Vikings (I think they were the original suppliers) I THINK the Tow Frame was supplied by Peak Trailers, but I'm not having much luck tracking down a Rubber Bellows (or one that would suit) and a Plastic Bag and Gaffer Tape isn't a long term solution!!
