There are a growing number of US classic car owners on this site, and we dont know as much about them as someone in the US would, so its kind of vice versa.

We may be able to teach you about european stuff, and you can do the same with american...

On one of the other forums I visit, threads can be tracked for as long as wanted. On here, notification is only given for one reply. Could tthis be changed to make it easier not to miss replies?

Changing the 'mechanics' of the forum would be quite a drawn out affair I think, so for now it'll have to stay as it is from a functionality point of view.

I was wondering if there'd be enough interest to warrant a category for non-automotive antique stuff, as many old-vehicle fans also have interests in other old stuff, such as typewriters, enamel signs, clocks and so on - worth a try??

Sounds a great idea Rick, most of us have a love of old things and it would be nice to discuss them on line. It mustn't get out-of-hand though, with Tim Wannacott and his band of auctioneer weirdos hanging over and pawing us as in 'Bargain Hunt' and similar cut-price TV antique shows. (Just had to get that in cos it annoys me) Embarassed

Rick, as a little test, I answered a topic. This answer got 1 reply, from the original poster. I then started a new topic with the same reply. Quite a few members answered.

After having thought about this, I did the same one more time. Similar results, several answered the new topic, but NONE answered the reply.

So thats why I made the suggestion of changing the topic replies.

If this is a car forum, then make improvement to it, rather than just adding sections. Though I do have an interest in other types of older things, NOT ON THIS FORUM! There are other places for that kind of stuff anyway.

Over the past few days, I've not been posting as much as usual. The reason is, I'm beginning to feel its getting a waste of time...

I agree that having the option of being notified of every reply to a given post might be useful, but at the moment I simply do not have the time to re-write any forum code, so for better or worse changes to functionality will have to go on the backburner for the timebeing.

I don't see how adding an extra category at the bottom of the forum, allowing members to wax lyrical about other old things that interest them, in any way makes it less worthwhile contributing to the automotive categories. Plenty of threads wander off into discussing non-car related things anyway. If enough members say they think it should be removed, or it simply stirs up little interest, then it will probably be taken off.

PS I've decided to split the Restoration category, so that it should be easier to find relevant posts, eg ukdave's tips on electrical overhauls and such like. As such you may notice some posts moving into these new categories Smile

cheers

Well if the general consensus is that splitting the resto category into broad groups, body/electrical/mechanical etc is confusing then I'll revert to the old single category, I just think it'll be easier to find useful old posts if things are grouped like this. I'll see what the feedback is and take it from there Smile

I admit, I would have done things in a more simple way, but I agree, lets see how it goes.

I do have a suggestion though, but then again, I always have! Laughing
