This coming Sunday (16th) is the meeting at the Old Piggery Cafe, though I should probably call it something else now the cafe is closed. I'll be at Tatton Park both days, so will have to miss it.
Anyone coming from Nantwich should note that the A530 is closed at Baddington Bridge until the end of August.

This weekend is 1940s weekend at Sleap Airfield. Sounds quite good, if I wasn't occupied I'd go along and have a look.

Perhaps 'Combermere Cars and Caffeine' might be a fitting new name?
Anyway, I'll be at Tatton too, God willing. The passes arrived today and it looks like being dry both days, so the classic will get an outing! Hope to see you there. I've just got the clean an polish it, after getting rained on at the Cholmondeley Arms last time... so that's most of Friday taken up! It's been too blinking warm the last few days, and as I get older, I'm sure the bloody thing is growing in size! |

Cholmondeley Arms meeting next Sunday morning, August 30th. I won't be there are I'm at Oulton Park for the Gold Cup all weekend. It's a bit frustrating, nothing happens at Oulton before mid-day on Sundays, but the instructions for display cars say we have to be in place pretty early and might have to park with the hoi polloi if we arrive later, so I don't risk it.

There's a meeting at the Eight Farmers in Crewe, 13th September 9am to 1pm. At least I think it's there - the advert on Facebook only has the postcode, but that's the only thing I can see there. I wish they'd just put the venue name on as well.

Went to the Chum meet on Sunday; turn out was lower than usual, there was a lot on that weekend, plus a lot of folks were probably away. The upside was that I managed to get a bacon butty on my first attempt!
Fortunately, the weather played ball, sunny and breezy before clouding over around 11am, so I headed off home shortly afterwards and the rain came in more or less dead on 12 noon, as per forecast. So home and dry and safely tucked back up in the garage before it started... for a change.
Despite the record breaking dry spring and summer, of the eight or so events I've taken my car to this year, only three of them have been totally free from rain, with the remaining five all having rained at some point, either on the way there or back, or at the event itself. Just enough to necessitate washing the the car before it went out to another show.
Fingers crossed for a dry day on the 20th of Sept for the Cholmondeley Castle classic car show.
Talking of shows, does anyone know when the September Piggery meet is on? |

I must go to more show's or preferably the more informal local meets, to be honest Id rather use my vehicles!
In the last 12 months they would have best been viewed at Sainsburys ! I have shopped there in the Innocenti Mini, MGA, Bedford CA & Fordson 500E, with the latter attracting a 6 year old who was very chuffed to sit in it!, all fine by me, I just can't stand formal shows with critical anoraks they seem to attract 
Am I on my own here? |

If it's the usual third Sunday in the month, it'll clash with Cholmondeley Castle. I've tried searching Facebook for the group, but it will only show me the event which has been and gone.

Over many years, I've had the odd one telling me stuff I know isn't correct, but I tend to just let them get on with it. The most frequent is "so, this is just Vauxhall's version of an Escort RS2000", so I've put an extra bit of paper in the window explaining how it isn't the case. I've had a lot of former Vauxhall Ellesmere Port employees wanting to talk about the car, generally in a positive way, even they get stuff wrong, but then I don't necessarily remember things I did 50-odd years ago.

Thanks for the info, Mike. I might do the Royal Oak meet this Sunday, as I've not been to that one yet. Will see what the forecast is on Saturday then decide, plus it starts a bit later so I can still have a lie in on Sunday! 
As for 'anoraks' and 'rivet counters', I can't say I've ever had any issues with them at shows or meets (touch wood). Possibly as my car remains just as delivered by the main dealer in 1992, with no changes from factory spec since then. Even the tyres are the correct make and tread pattern (Michelin X M+S). So if someone did start trying to tell me that something isn't correct on it, they'd not get very far. I suppose it's bound to happen one day though!  |

I once had a young chap try to tell me that my Austin Swallow had a wooden chassis. I explained that it had a wooden floor and body but the chassis was steel...but he wouldn't have it.
"Oh no". he said. "it definitely has a wooden chassis".
He then pointed to the wood in the engine compartment that the bonnet is secured to ..."See". he said.
"Oh yes, I replied. I hadn't seen that!"
He went away happy that he knew more about the car I had restored than I did.

I did the Royal Oak along with @vintagefluyguy and another mate with a TR4, there was a selection of cars there, a fairly strong American presence, with rain at the start clearing off later. I left around 13.30.

The Weekend Runaways have a gathering at the Eight Farmers this coming Sunday 13th September, for Classic Cars, Bikes, Trucks and Americans. They're doing another event in a few weeks, doing two a month because of the limited size of the car park. ETA - 9am to 1pm, come and go as you please.
