With the theft of classic car seeming to be on the up I came up with this simple idea to make my prefab garage more secure for very little cost. The side door has a built in lock but dosnt look up to the job so cutting a slot in the door and making an L shaped bit of steel that bolts to the garage frame and goes through the slot in the door, when drilled with a hole a padlock can be fitted through. The up and over door I just drilled two holes in each runner as near to the mechanism as posable when the door was closed and put two padlocks through the holes this stops the door from lifting and one would have to almost pull the door off to get enough room to get in. OK its not the best in the world but might cut down the opertunest thief who if he has to make a noise or take time might give up, as I said its a quick and very cheap way of adding a bit of security the only cost being three padlocks and an off cut of old steel plate, Here's two photos of the locks in place.

Be careful revealing your secrets of security on the net, for all to see. If you get my drift....
Good ideas though! |
