As some of you may recall, a few weeks ago I was thinking about getting another car to join the MG. I wasted mucho dosh traipsing round the country looking at RR and Bentleys (which is what I thought I really wanted!) that turned out to be mis-described rubbish and the couple that I did drive put me off the idea for ever!

Went off the idea of the Porsche 928 as the few nice ones were too far away and I couldn't be arsed so I knew I didn't really want one!

Ended up buying a Mercedes SL500! Joined the relevant forum and notice one of the members here is also on there, and they seem a decent bunch.

Really love the car, not quite a classic yet but is mooted to be the 'next' one and I'm really glad I got it - it goes like stink! Paid £6000 for it even though it was advertised at £7500, so I think I got a bargain. few tiny issues with it that I didn't spot in the test drive or on the way home! Mainly the airbag and the horn don't work. This turned out to be related as there's a "clock spring" behind the steering wheel (looks like a computer cable in a round plastic casing with wires out of both sides) and it had split.

Local garage owner that I've known for years sorted it out for me for the grand sum of £120 including the new part from Merc (which was £80 INCL vat), sorted it all out on the computer and jobs a gud 'un!

Had to store the hardtop in a friends centrally heated basement as it's just too big to stay in the garage, but it's lovely just being able to drop the roof as and when the sun deigns to make its presence felt!

Well pleased...... bit worried about the future of the MG though Embarassed

Did you get the March issue of Classic and Sports Car magazine? It had and article on the SL range throught the years. Another one of my dream cars.Post a photo if you can.

I have also been looking at Bentleys on ebay lately did you see this one?

Went for £4950 last time and the buyer backed out. Relisted and finishes soon.

The SL is definitely a classic in the making. I love my 1988 SE500 Merc (W126) and my GWagen
You are right about the Bentley/Royces though; a badly turned out one is terrible in every way and a veritable money pit BUT a well kept one can be a dream drive but just so hard to find. Its the same old story though they are cheap to buy now and open to any Tom Dick and Harry to abuse. Crying or Very sad

Didn't see that one, though at that sort of money it's goona be a money pit.... unless you are REALLY lucky! I'm not normally

Yes I did get that issue, and thoroughly enjoyed it. mate of mine has the 107 (earlier version) and he's now proposing a joint run to the sun in top down V8's.

Could be pricey if fuel keeps going up Embarassed Always my way, buy some gas guzzling monster just as fuel goes through the roof!
