I recently started using Shiply, http://www.shiply.com/
You list some info about the item you need shiping and then couriers can bid, its a bit like eBay in reverse, I recently got 4 Morris engines picked up from Wiltshire and delivered to Cheshire for £32.
Many of the couriers bid for jobs on routes they are already delivering on, so to go out of thier way a bit at each end doesn't cost much,

Like the old days on the road, If I recall most counties had a number you could call for a return load. |
