At least I think it was a Cavalier. Any body know anything about them?
I found it in a friends garden the other day.
I am now enjoying that happy time between getting it home, and finding the rot.
Nice orange and green colour scheme inside.

Not much help there then!
I originally got it for spare bits, but the Laughable Cavalier could grow on you. I have sat in it listening to 70's music and I am there again. I just want people to look inside and cringe!!
Just need an allegro big enough to pull it, man. |

I bought a 1972(?) Cavalier in 1974. By 1976 it had litterally fallen to bits!
I first noticed something wrong when I awoke one morning to find the ceiling six inches lower than it had been the night before, and from there on it was downhill all the way.
Then I bought my first Royale, and life suddenly got better!
Mind you, I believe the Cavalier when new was about £700, and the equivalent Royale was around £1800 !! |

Well mine's only dropped a couple of inches.
I think I'm getting the picture though. I'll play with it for a while then take it to bits. Thanks for the advice, I'll get a Royale next. |

Good find...I think I have thought about getting a Cavalier Caravan to go with my Mk1 Cavalier... but have always decided against it Mind you I cant say anything I have just been given a lump of 1970's tat in the form of a 1978 Eccles Topaz!! Not this one but the same as it but with new fangled plastic windows Love the Brown paintwork!
I 'rescued' it from a storage yard about 2 years ago for £50, washed it checked it over sold it for £300... a mate bought it but didnt use it so sold it to his mate who bought an awning for it and a year later hadn't used it so asked me if I wanted it for nothing... of course I said yes.....for some reason _________________ Mick

There is still an active owners club for Cavalier's, I used to know a few of the member's when I was on the Windrush Club committee and they were a decent bunch.

Hi
Niced to see an Estuary Cavalier and this one is a 1973 1200 model £750 new. They were exported all over Europe and also were one of the most popular makes at the time with some great layouts L shhaped lounges and L shaped centre kitchens in 1971!
Not many around now and the guy who was with them Roy Cattell left to form Panther caravans at Brandon Suffolk. Cavaliers also were eary twin axle pioneers in mid 70's, also double glazing.
The Topaz is a 76 model and a first with Styrofoam side wallls injected- as Europas of the time
Hope this helps |

Thanks for the info, everyone. There was almost one less Cavalier when I gave the roof a tug...
Then repaired it. New, stronger beams, and some fillets to push the flat bit of the roof up.
Now the roof bows upwards slightly instead of sagging. Problem solved.
Now to tackle the sides... |

I would advise against sneezing (or anything else for that matter) too loudly in this one!
To be fair, it is coming up to 40 years old, and the previous two owners have done a lot of touring in it. Considering it was designed as a light-weight structure, not too bad.
Now all I have to do is re-build the othe two weak areas (the walls and the floor), and it should be good for partying in!
Oh, well, the chassis is good, which is what I got it for in the first place... |
