Can anyone positively id this old steam wagon? The front wheels are reminiscent of those found on early Sentinels, but the cab looks a lot squarer than those seen on other early Sentinels I can find pictures of. Does anyone recognise this one??

thanks, R

I reckon its a Garrett undertype possibly 3-4 tonner (might be 6 it is quite long) clues being the part name visible and the front wheels.

Anybody else? these are not really my main interest.

Thanks, that looks like the one, I was hoping that the glimpse of "...ETT" on the badge would help with this one. I've two interesting photos of this lorry, I'll get them onto the site shortly.

thanks, R

The lorry in is indeed a Garrett Undertype Steam Lorry. It is a six wheeler platform wagon. The name "Invincible" on the front apron was applied to the one owned by J.E.Heath Junr. of Nottingham. The style of lighting, the large Lucas or CAV electric headlamps, and the lamp brackets are similar to those he had fitted on other wagons. The wagon is Garrett no. 35204 which was delivered to him on 1/10/28 and registered TO8673. It was probably taken off the road in 1934 when the vehicle taxation changed penalising vehicles of high unladen weight and on solid rubber tyres.

You can see a bit more about Garrett wagons on my web page http://homepage.ntlworld.com/michael.walters3/
