Hello,
I´m new here. I´m 18 years old guy from Czech Republic. I´m really beginner about cars. But the problem is that we (me and fahter) have 3 classic cars and we want to repair them. I want to collect a bit of experience and advices here. At the moment we are working on Renault than we will do other cars.
We have:
Renault Dauphine R.1090 - 1961
Opel Kadett KJ36 - 1936
Opel Kadett KJ38 - 1939

Vitejte, are the daulphine what a rust bucket they where, and one could soon lose one of these on a corner, drove one in Germany on and off [borrowed] in 1961 the female owner kept a sandbag [full] in the front so it would stay on the road. |

Nice cars. It's the Dauphine which takes my fancy. AIRC these were one of the first cars to be advertised on TV over here. Anyone remember the 'aerostable suspension' being mentioned?
My uncle Ron ran one in the early 60's having traded his motorcycle combination for it. Lovely until the swing axles got the better of him and he rolled it near Monmouth. |

The dauphines were known in my circle of friends as the roll over Renault.
I bought one and spun it three revolutions in the road before hitting the kerb which stopped it. The spin had taken the speed off and I only suffered a bent wheel.
To be fair when I examined the tyres I found one cross ply on the rear so some excuse for the car.
I tried to buy another wheel secondhand and when I called on the advertiser he told me the spare came from a Dauphine he had rolled on a round about.
He said it had rolled without warning.
This made me lose enthusiasm and I sold it to a friend, the same friend who had advised me to keep my foot down if the back stepped out. I told him I had kept my foot down when the car began to slide until I was facing a gigantic hoarding by the roadside.
I felt he deserved the car, he drove it for some time without incident, maybe he was correct when he claimed he could drive better than I could
They were the original Baco foil cars, but with the disadvantage of being able to rust as you watched.
Nice and light to drive though if you could still the anticipation on bends and round abouts.
Regards Kels. |
