I would guess that there is not one forum member (UK) who has not seen the Stobart Trucks.
I read his book some years ago.

A real true, working man with vision. Probably the most famous name in road transport.
RIP, Eddie. |

It is Edward Stobart who has passed away today 1954-2011, he was the son of 'Eddie Stobart' who gave his name to the transport co. |

Yes, however the Eddie Stobart company with its immaculate trucks, well dressed drivers and giving female names to each truck all came from Edward.
Daily Telegraph Article.

That's very sad, he was only 57. Does anyone know if there is a "young eddie",or more family to continue the business? They have interests in railways and airports now too.
My kids, both now in their mid-20's, still "Spot the Eddie" when driving their own cars. R.I.P. Edward |

Sorry to hear that. The TV series was really good. I believe one of his sons is running the business. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

I think the business was bought by out by one of the sons and another business partner which in turn was taken over by the Westbury group.

Just read Edwards obituary in the Daily Telegraph. This says that he sold his 55% share in the company, to his brother William and William's business partner Andrew Tinkler, of WA developments, a railway infrastructure company. This was in 2004, so I guess no change will be seen, as Edward has been only in the background for some years. It says he suffered from "heart problems", so I guess Edward has been ill for some time. |

Isnt it great that Carlisle United who are sponsored by Stobart and have the Stobart name across their strip go on and win a cup at Wembley...A fitting tribute. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |
