Probably really easy for you guys but I don't know it
I found the pic while researching the area in which I live and all I know is it's titled winter632
Would like to find out more about the van as I have a soft spot for splitscreens.
Cheers

Hi Brian......... A little infor about the J series here.
http://www.jtypevan.com/
63 could well refer to 1963. I was working night shift when it started to snow about 2am. By 6am it was well over a foot deep and it snowed all the next day. |

Thanks for the speedy reply Peter, I'm afraid I've been into VW's [splitscreens] for the last 15 years and no little about other classic's.
So that's a J van, are they common or quite rare nowadays? |

I can't answer as to their rarity. The "interwebby" comes up with quite a few images of restored vans, so I guess they are loved by some. |

| You don't see many VW splitscreen vans on the road then there's a show and thousands appear outer the woodwork, I would think there's fewer 'J' vans around [we have 75% of the worlds VW's over here]. |

That explains why I haven't seen one or know what it was
Can't take any credit for the pic as I swiped it, do love pictures like this and always save them but up to now they've been mainly VW's |

Started to snow in Surrey, Boxing day '62, end of February '63 ploughed snow banks at the side of Tog Hill in Gloucestershire were still 4 to 5 ft high. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

The couple who's house has been leaned on, look happy enough. These days, they would be on the phone to some ambulance chasing lawyer, looking to sue for trauma or something!
I did lots of work on the later J2 and J4 vans, but the old J types were already quite rare when I started work in 1962. I do remember replacing a clutch on a J, and thats about all. There was a very smart grey and red one, sign written, "Home and Colonial stores", who parked up nightly in our workshop. I don't recall ever working on it though. |

Like you EXBMC when I started work in 1966 J Types, and JB's, were getting thin on the ground, though we did do the MOT's on Southern Electrics van's but they had their own repair garage to mend them! We had a Home and Colonial J type, but it was changed for a J4 soon after I started.
I do have a Dinky J type Royal Mail van in my cabinet though, so will have to be satisfied with that!

| Hi RUSTON, was there a "Home and Colonial" in Matlock then? I didn't know any more, other than the Cornmarket, Derby one. You weren't at Kennings Matlock were you? |
