My car owners club don't do valuations for insurance purposes. I can see from google there are companies that offer a valuation service but they all want £250+

I just want a valuation that's good enough to forward to an insurance company for an agreed value policy.

Any ideas who could do this in the North West without it costing more than the insurance policy itself ?

Find a classic car insurance broker that offers self certified ones eg Aon or Peter Best. These have an upper limit where an independent/club valuation is required or in case where MV is not listed in the Classic Car mags.

If it is avaluable car then the valuation fee is probably worth it and it may last for several years

Are there no old-car-savvy garages in your area that would be willing to put a valuation down on paper?

My insurers ask me to value my cars! Surely, unless it is totally obscure (stranglely as one of mine is) a simple search for current cars for sale will give you - and them - an idea and back up your valuation.

Both Heritage and Peter D James allow self certified agreed value policies up to £15k but over that they want an independent valuation, which mine is. There aren't that many similar cars that come up for sale but I do know of 3 (from the club chairman) that have gone through auctions over the past couple of years so I could use that as a basis for the valuation (and to be honest so would a valuer). I just need someone to use that info and put the valuation based on that info down on paper as their "opinion".

Asking £250 for a full blown valuation report is maybe worthwhile if we're talking £100K+ cars but is a bit high in my opinion although you could take the view that its a small % of the cars valuation.

And as Insurers tend to want it re-valuing every 2 years it starts to get expensive. When I had an E-type the Jag Club offered a valuation service for £12.50 which was accepted by Footman James. But as my car club aren't organised for valuations then I need a 3rd party valuation.

Maybe a friendly classic car garage will be the answer although there's the possibility that they would hesitate to value a car in case there is come-back on them which of course there shouldn't be.
