I found this old photo the other day.Taken in 1982 it shows a much younger me all fed up because I'd finally realised this poor old Rover 3 litre was decidedly frilly in the inner wing department.
From memory the car was about fifteen years old at the time and probably cost me less than a hundred quid. These days the wings and the rest of the car would be worth repairing but then, it really wasn't.
I promised myself at the time that one day I'd buy a better one and over twenty five years later I have a P5b. How I wish I'd have had a crystal ball,I'm sure I'd have found a way of storing that old rover or at least squirreled away bits from it,much to my eternal shame I think the whole lot ended up going for scrap.

In hindsight I'd have liked to keep my green 122S as it looked great, but at the time the £ was needed I've not sent many cars for scrap, a few were bought with the intentions of breaking them for bits so I lost no sleep in getting them carted away for scrap, but most were sold on as going concerns or for resto.
I'd quite like my 2.5 Spitfire back, if only for the way it went and the soundtrack. DVLA suggests that it is still around, probably. The S1 XJ12L was a real looker, albeit a tad thirsty, but fun to own. Ideally I'd have kept everything, I'm still in touch with the owner of my first ever E83W truck ( ), and also the Z van, plus the current owners of my first Spit sent me photos of it a couple of years ago, so it was nice to know that it was still going.

| Only one, F682CKY, my Golf 2 16V which took me years to 'sort' but when I'd finished it was the best handling car I've ever driven - I swapped it for a '54 Riley RME! |

The only one I would like to own now would be my 72 VW Microbus. It was South African assembled, and I had it for over 5 years, the longest I had ever kept any vehicle.
Only thing is,I probably couldn't afford to run it now,it wasn't exactly economical, and petrol has just gone up to $1.25 per litre of 96 octane. |

It isn't just cars though. I remember selling my Gold Star for £40 because the RRT2 box had unsuitable ratios for road use, and the clip-ons made riding it extremely tiring too.
As regards cars, I reckon the Mk 1 Cooper S with Alexander stage 2 conversion is the one I should have kept. |

Modern classic for me, my Vauxhall Senator, I traded it in for a Porsche...not a clever move

Quite why Vauxhall or General Motors undersold or underdescribed the Senator is a mystery to me. A friend had one of top line 3.0 litre CD or CDX models and when I drove it I thought it was a fantastic car. Far better than a BMW 5 series of the same era IMHO.
It's successor, the Omega, particularly the later 3.0 or 3.2 litre engined ones were superb as well. _________________ Starting Handle Expert
