Hi All,
My father and I rescued some cars from a shed today and as promised here are some pictures of the rescue. The barn has some cars in it from the late proprietor of the local Vauxhall dealership and his wife has asked us to move the cars and sell them for her.
The first car was a Morris Minor with 600 miles on the clock from new. Yes I said 600. The Vauxhall dealership was a Morris dealership beforehand and this car was crashed a few months after being sold (it clipped a wall aparently and rolled into another wall). It was supposed to be reshelled but wasnt so was placed in this barn in 1970 and its sat there ever since. Amazing!
Remarkably it freewheeled and we moved it into position with a trolley jack:

Back home, the tyres were pumped up after this picture and all retain air!
Though dusty, the interior is in very good condition. I found needles and drugs under the back seat (the cars was used by a vet)
The inside of the doors are, to all intents and purposes, like new.
Roof damage is pretty severe
Found an old work receipt dated 1969
Also in the shed are a Triumph Spitfire, PC Cresta and an FB Victor. We only moved the Victor yesterday and are collecting the rest next week.
The Victor appears too good to break, and has an almost full service history book in the glove compartment. The engine is siezed but it rolls and the ignition system seems to work. Please see advert in for sale section for more details.
We will be breaking the Morris for spares including the complete interior so please enquire if interested, or we will sell the car whole if enough interest. _________________ 2013 Dodge Durango R/T Hemi

I note the FB Victor has a floor change lever.Was this a common fitment on UK Victor's?All New Zealand ones had a 3 speed column change. |

As I remember that model victor was available with 4 speed box change on floor or 3 speed box change on column.
Quite a pleasant car in it's day. |

Jeeves is correct, a 'three on the tree' change came as standard with you having to pay extra (not sure how much, I'll have to check XJD's bill of sale) for the four-on-the-floor. Judging by the lack of chrome trims round the windows the Victor appears to be a rare standard (base) model. Other optional extras were the radio and wing mirrors.
Yours also appears to have seat covers over the original upolstery, or is that the 'standard' seating?
The Morris Minor is quite a find too, might it be worth sticking it up on the MMOC website to see if anyone on there fancies putting a new roof on it? Or even making it into a convertible? |

The FB Victor Owners club chairman lives down the road (by remarkable co-incidence) so my dad is going to call him tonight to see if anyone in the club is interested and with regards to your MMOC suggestion, thanks, what a great idea! I have just posted it on there.

Great finds. Well done!
I note the DE registration numbers. Pembrokeshire?
My late father bought a new Victor in 1962 - LCC 372 - it was a DeLux in two tone blue and that had a four speed floor change.
I am open to being corrected, but I seem to remember that there were three versions of the FB - Standard or base, DeLux and Super. I think all the Supers were 4 speed and an option on the other two. The Supers had individual front seats and the DeLux we had was the same but could have been an option. The base models had bench seats as standard.
Don't forget, there were two versions of the FB with the second being an updated model from model year 1963 on. There were many detail differences such as the grilles and rear lights for example. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

Finally picked up the two remaining cars so here they are:
Firstly the Spitfire:
With some fresh fuel it fired up right away! The brakes didnt work and the clutch is stuck but we warmed it up and then drove it around the field. There is some rust at the front of the tub but the chassis looks ok. Its a 1300 model though, I thought the Spitfire only came in 1500 form.
Onto the PC Cresta. This car started bending the trailer as we winched it up and only just fitted. We got it home, put some fresh fuel in it and it started right away and ran smoothly apart from a misfire on one cylinder. The clutch was free and the brakes worked so I took it for a spin and it drove well! It was wierd getting used to the 3 speed column shift though. Almost everything works and the interior is in excellent condition as can be seen in the pics, should make an excellent project for someone.
The only serious rust I could see was to the rear valence. The floors appear ok and the chassis rails are solid. I'd love to see this car fixed up.

Nice saves! The PC looks particularly sound. Is that an F Type Victor hiding under a cover in the barn? |

Yes it is, the wife wants to keep it though to 'restore it' one day, though that will unlikely happen. We have been told though she has an excellent Riley Elf, Series 2 Landrover and a vintage Autin sitting in another shed somewhere..... _________________ 2013 Dodge Durango R/T Hemi

The hanger that your Dodge was once stored in, was up until the 90's the Vauxhall "Service Station" for the Elesmere Port Vauxhall Plant. Faults that could not be rectified on the line would go to the service station or rectification, as would "problem" vehicles that dealers could not fix. I'd imagine most plants would have something simular. Certain bodywork faults would result in new vehicles being scrapped, only because there were strict rules about what you can and can't do to rectify bodywork and then go on to sell / register a car as new; I think you could change bolt on bits but if a panel change involved welding the new vehicle would be scrapped! |
