The black rubber on my running boards looks a little washed out and grey. I cheered it up last week with black shoe polish but this has only lasted for the week and now the rubber is fading back to grey again. How best to treat the cosmetic problem please?

Hi BT, have you considered black tyre paint?, probably get some at your local motor factor/accessory shop/halfords.

Tyre black works well as long as its not applied too thickly as it builds up an flakes off - I prefer Cherry Blossom Laughing

Thanks chaps, last year I used a aerosol tyre dressing that worked brilliantly. Then I stepped out onto the running board and *^&$#*())^&#@!^^&&*((%$$#%$% I had forgotten the silicone element, doh. I will have a look at the black tyre paint, thanks again. Smile

Thanks mid, sounds well worth a go with that rather than the paint, give it a try anyway. Smile

Fade to grey, sounds like a good song title.

Anything you use will be slippery.

The tyre paint is probably the best bet - it's thinner than water & really soaks in. After a few days it won't be so slippery & lasts quite a while. After 3 or 4 thin coats a week or 3 apart it will stay black.

Indeed, Fade to Grey was a top five single in the mid 1980's from a band named 'Visage. Happy days! Smile
