50s/early 60s sports cars, such as TR4s and 5s in A1 condition seem like a decent bet. Astons even more so if you can run to buying one in the first place!
Otherwise, really good examples of anything vintage seem to be holding their money well. Anything a bit dog-eared, unless a genuine barn find or exceptionally rare, less so. Cars with a following and good club/spares support, such as Rileys(!), probably one of the safer bets. Riley specials have been creeping up for quite some time now, if built correctly and fitted with attractive coachwork. Same with sporty Austin 7s and Ulster replicas, so long as they are on a short vintage chassis.
Another way is with good examples of much later modern classics, like Lotus Carltons, E30 M3s or Integrales perhaps, but whether you'd actually want to own one - and maintain it in tip-top condition - is another matter. Not sure I would.
If you really want a good long-term bet, I'd still go with property (bought right). It's a buyer's market at the moment so there must be opportunities to beat a desperate seller down.
Depends on your budget really, as with most things.

Hi Dave
I posed a similar question a few weeks ago, my thinking then was along the lines of; "is there a more interesting way of generating a pension fund!"
Like most investments it's a bit of a gamble. My MGA stayed static in value for about 15 years, in the last couple of years it's doubled.... Why? I have no idea! and it won't tempt me in to selling.
A mate of mine bought a new Audi rd8 when they first came out, ran it for 6 months, then sold it, covering all costs and a £10k profit. Nice idea , but would you take the risk?
Crystal ball required me thinks!

OK seriously. Toyota Celica GT4 Carlos Saints replica going for not much money. Hell, I would like one. Sticks to corners like sh*t to a blanket. _________________ 1936 Morris 8 Series 1
