I don't know if this has been posted before, but it's very interesting to oldies like me who drove the A1 fifty years or so ago.

Seen it before though not sure if it's been posted on here. Such a shame they only went up to Grantham, would love to have seen the Nottinghamshire stretch!

BB and Ashley, there is a new book out called "The Great North Road, Then and now" by a lorry driver called Wolfie Cooper.
Buy it and wallow in nostalgia, cos it's 90% pictures.
I got mine in September, and I'm reading it for the third time.

It has been posted here before but it's a really excellent little film and certainly deserves another bump up.

I have heard of it, but knowing the prices of books these days I haven't even bothered googling it... Sad

My Uncle bought Number one Great North road just after the war, lived there till he passed away in the mid 70's.

Looks over the marshaling yards of the London underground in Highgate.
Remember watching them over the garden fence

We bought it on Amazon, under £20 I think, and well worth it.

Just ordered it from Amazon for £14.73 delivered. I'm looking forward to it as I remember driving along the GNR in my Dad's Austin A40 in the late 50s with my stick-on steering wheel stuck to the dash and seeing the red & black London Brick Company lorries grinding their way along.

ETA - Amazon cancelled the order so I've bought it from WH Smith for £10.32 (collect from my local branch) Very Happy
