Hi.
These 2 old Army trucks are on the outskirts of Carlisle Cumbria. Don't know if they are still there or who owns them, but it seems a waste to let these just fall to bits. If they are still there, they are on the Carlisle to Port Carlisle Road. Only a few miles out of the City.
The yard used to belong to Ron Morton. This was was the place where you went to find spare parts for your old banger. Spent many an hour in there.

They look like Leyland Marathon
Fuel consumption? (Petrol)
When we had them in Germany the target figure was 3 MPG, on a bad day it was 3GPM
There are a few videos on youtube.
Roger
PS the taller guy, unhooking the gun from the tracktor, is 6'11" just to give a scale |

That should read Leyland Martian 6x6 Artillery, not Marathon
The engine was a Rolls Royce B81
Straight eight, 6516 cc with output of 197bhp
Sounded fantastic, had an exhaust, out the side, big enough to put your fist in, and on a heavy over run could get three foot flames out of the exhaust.

Great for a stealthy approach to move artillery into position then. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

I used to do POL on exercises the last couples of years of my service.
'P'etrol 'O'il and 'L'ubricants.
It always had to be delivered under cover of darkness so as not to give away locations.
Off road with no light is great fun, thank got the windscreens could be opened.
This was before satnav, pure map reading, anyway when we thought we were getting close we would switch off and listen
40/70 Light anti aircraft guns with radar required a Meadows 27kva generator.
Could be heard about a mile away.
