I have a pre war Cheltenham brochure with exactly the same colour scheme. Its a bit bright for me, but looks the part. I was surprised at the interior of the caravan, for a Winchester it looks quite basic. But at that age she must be a very rare bird indeed. A couple we know in St.Day have a 1932 Hutchings, which is like the box type Cheltenham you have. So unless they made both types at the time, yours must be one of the first " modern" shape Winchesters made. _________________ I can resist anything except temptation ! ( Oscar Wilde)

hey dalek63
yeah reading up on Hutchings history apparentley the box type shape of the 'Voyageur' as they were called carried on until mid 1930, then the streamlined 'Winchester' was introduced at the end of 1930..... a few box type were still produced but mainly the streamlined style type were made,
Mine was made in 1933 and was part of the hire fleet hence why not so luxuriously fitted out it was made with Ripplings parrafin cooking stove and two electric 12v lights .... then when it was sold to the general public gas was installed....
Having looked at most of the pictures of Hutchings vans from the 30's colour schemes tend to mostly be very dark lower half panels with a brighter lighter top half....
unfortunatley theyre all black n white photos grrrr lol . |

As a non-caravanner, I prefer the original colour scheme. I also think the colour split might look better if it was at the same height all the way round, at the height it is on the front and rear.
Just my view of course YVM, it's yours to do whatever you wish. |

Hey YVM just paint it cream and put transfers down the side that will fade in a few years time and you will blend in with the rest of the modern vans on site and no one will even notice you in the middle of the field!
Think you've done a grand job and pleased to see you've been as bold as brass, this old girl deserves sticking her neck out!
