Yes it is true. Having worked in the motor trade, I sold a couple of waste oil heaters to traders both working from home, and they both had to pay for licences which allowed them to burn waste oil.... rediculous !!
I think it was these heaters I sold:

I thought the law was that if you burned less than 1200 litres you didnt need a licence and there was another clause which was you can burn your own oil but if you buy it in that you have to pay a licence
I use old fuel to degrease really dirty stuff witha stiff paint brush in a stainles oil drain pan
Really bad varnishy stuff goes on the bonfire |

Rick if you have any left, drop it over at some point!
If you ever have any diesel or parifin, mix it with oil, makes great stuff for cleaning and protecting steam engines, also for lighting them up.... No good using petrol for this mind!

Many years ago(late'60s) in my workshop in Shetland I had a ' home brewed '
drip feed system which was a 45gal barrel laid on it's side, with a pipe off the little plug + a tap, feeding into an old open fronted stove, which dripped onto a steel concave disc mounted on three 5/16th bolts as legs. A piece of cloth with some thinners was placed on the disc & lit & then the drip regulated to suit the heat requirements. I had a piece of aluminium across the front as a blank which melted on a regular basis so it gave out plenty of heat. Everything went in the barrel, waste oil, used thinners, paint, kerosene & diesel. Smoke was a bit of a give away so I could never hide when I was in residence - happy days, cheers,JD. _________________ 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Convertible
