When we were at the Great Dorset Steam Fair last year , we had a few drinks with some friends in the evening after the show had closed to the public and after a while it was so dark we could hardly see our glasses, not a good thing at all, when you cant find your drink in the dark.
So we were thinking what we might do, obviously we could have purchased a icky modern plastic battery lamp. But NO that would be beyond the pale of civilisation as we know it. So instead we started looking out for a period form of lighting. So been keeping an eye on the that ethereal online depository of all things old and useful or useless, ( depending on wither your utterly mad or not) We found this lovely old Tilley lamp. So swiftly purchased and restored. Perfect match for our 1960 Car Cruiser, its dated Feb 1960. So now we will be able to see our drinks and have a bit of heat too.
Now looking for one to go with the Hemleys around the mid 1940's.

Hello,
I am a collector of paraffin lamps.
When we take one of the Classic or Vintage caravans to a rally or show we always take along a large selection of lamps.
Just before sunset the lamps are lit and hung on steel road pegs (4ft high) around our display area.
The fellow exhibitors love them, plus when cycling back from the Steam Up bar we can find our way back .
We even have a display of paraffin stoves which we use... I know what you are thinking Sad Ba....ds.
The modern campers at rallies think our display is great...but why do they not do the same.?
You have one now start collecting more.!!!!
