Hi there

Do any forum members have ideas or experience about how to clean up the honeycomb on the radiator grille of my Morris 8 Series 1.

Mine is intact but looks dirty and fragile. Would these be painted or untreated?

All the best

Alec

Hi Alec, mine was much the same as you describe yours. I had mine chemically stripped and then powder coated in satin black.

I asked the guys at the powder coaters to put plenty of powder on, which they duly did. It all came out rather well.

An old friend of mine recommended Oxalic Acid crystals dissolved in water and poured into a pre-war radiator to clean the inside. I have used this method (crystals from Ebay) and I was very pleased with the amount of gunge it removed and how clean it looked; so much so that I also cleaned out the block with it.

If this stuff doesn't harm the inside I see no reason why it would harm the outside. you would obviously need a big plastic tray and a fair amount of the crystals but it might be worth a try if, like me, you like to be self-contained with your restorations.
