I tried Peaks for road springs twelve months ago, Chris. After four phone calls to them, I'm still waiting for them to call back!
Why on earth did Peaks buy the stuff if they don't want to sell it?
If you find a supplier for shack absorbers, I want a pair.

i know there is one on ebay at kenmore's but one isn't enough so we have a lot of caravans out there that have b&b chassis and as a group we have to solve this problem now
we have a lot of vans on this forum that haven't done a huge mileage and we can't rely on old stock or breakers forever
a source needs to be found even if we have to have them made in India or some place similar
people like spax will custom make shocks but the price is steep a volume made pair of shockers should come in between £40/ £60 not £150 for the customs
like i have said we are within 3/8 inch so trials are to take place

Luckily our caravans dont have shock absorbers ! Shocked
But have you thought of repostioning the absorber brackets on the caravan to fit a modern cheaper absorber.

If I may invade this thread, my pre 1930 Eccles has only leaf springs and I find it a little disconcerting seeing the caravan sway/roll on its springs. Last season I thought all was fine, ignorance was bliss! I was going to fit a stabiliser, but any practical alternative solutions please?

As I have said, you can attach brackets to the axel and chassis to fit any shock absorber you like , as long as the travel is greater than the spring travel, then all should be well. As your caravan is such an old one, if you wanted to put on shock absorbers of the sort used at that time, many vintage car parts suppliers sell new remade ones. They are the friction damper types and are very good for old vintage vehicles / caravans that dont do over 50 or 60 MPH.

They also come up on ebay a bit cheaper for new and much cheaper for secondhand.

hi all
I purchased a pair of shocks of a vw T4 transporter the ones that are 3/8 inch to long
One of our members has taken them away to try so it may be some time till we get the definitive report but initial comparison is still favorable and £50 is better for most than £180 to do the job with no mods to the van
next on the list is springs
doe's anybody know the singeing for the B&B springs i know we can get them remade of the originals but the factory spec would be helpful

i contacted alko but they said that information wasn't available anymore

the saga comes to an end
one of the Royale club members volunteered to act as a Guinea pig to test the shockers and after small modification (pushing out the bottom steel sleeve in a vice and replacing it with a piece of old awning pole the shocks were in and have proven to be most satisfactory at a fraction of the cost of the major (we can make them for you people)

the ones we used are on ebay item number: 220721193882

so if your caravan has a b&b chassis and cupboards are coming open then this is an alternative to the posh shocks

Interesting. Does anyone know if these would suit our old '68 Sprite Alpine? The chassis has some B&B elements, but I think the semi-trailing arm set up may be Sprite specific.
