Yes, I've been watching it as well, though I haven't seen the last fifteen minutes of the second episode, so don't spoil the ending
There's a bit of anorak-y discussion elsewhere, and I must admit I've had an eye on the background looking for satellite dishes and the like. So far it's come out reasonably well, though someone raised the question of the two Jags at the start of the first episode, given that was supposed to be 1962 for the BOAC robbery, would they have had an A-suffix registration? And apparently one of the Land Rovers was much later as well.
I wondered about the scene showing the train pulling into Crewe Station. It all looked pretty good, but I thought it showed the train heading north rather than south - last time I went to London from Crewe it ran the other way. Then there's the whole thing about the WCML being four-track rather than the two they showed, but I missed a piece on North West Tonight about how much trouble they had to re-create the WCML on a private preserved railway (K&WVR I think) so I won't pick on that. And of course the added drama where they only tampered with the signals when the train came in sight, rather than doing it in plenty of time.
But pretty good overall, I thought. |

I wondered if the white Police jag would ever have been fitted with a Webasto roof for police duties? That aside the two episodes were well cast and very enjoyable.

One thing I really hate is re-registered classics on films, and modern type fonts on number plates. The Land Rovers and the Bedford RL had both these faults on the train robbery film.Shame they cant get things like that right,as they clearly do a lot of research to get accurate props etc. |

Hi
The Bristol 405 is the same one which was used in An Education, it carries it's own registration.
It was also used in the TV series Secret Diary of a Call Girl and is marked on IMDB as belonging to an IMDB member.

If any one wants to try any of the others for previous usage. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Overall I thought the detail was good as was the story. One of the military LR's was a late 2a from 1970 on as this has headlights in the wing _________________ Rover P2

I didn't see the programmes but was any reference made to Bruce Reynold's own car?
I don't think it was used in the actual robbery but the car Reynolds owned was a Mark 1 Lotus Cortina.
The car was confiscated by the authorities following his arrest, trial and imprisonment. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

I don't recall any reference to it, but I did read about it on a website afterwards, as I was intrigued to see how much time they actually served out of their 30 year sentences. |

The thing that surprised me was the very small mention of Ronnie Biggs. Although, the program that was made about him & his family claimed he played a very small part in the robbery he was the one who made it to Australia etc. & had a lot of press coverage at the time. Cheers,JD. _________________ 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Convertible

That may be but he was also receiving press coverage (again) that day so I am pleased he did not feature much in this programme at all. Was he the last survivor? _________________ Rover P2

I believe Biggs had a very minor role in the robbery, but gained fame because of the escape, followed by his very public profile in Brazil.

Biggs only had a minor roll, yes, but for all the derring do what one must remember is that all the Great Train Robbers were vicious thugs and career criminals.
They weren't smiling men wearing striped shirts, black eye masks and carrying bags with the word "swag" on them nor were they the amusing Ocean Eleven characters but hard, brutal men with penchants for violence with long criminal records.
Driver Jack Mills was never the same after being coshed with an iron bar and never drove a main line or "top link" train again.
Bruce Reynolds may have been the brains behind the robbery but the person who financed the operation was never identified. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

The train was on the right hand track not left, ie running on the down line not up line in railway terms. Like driving on the wrong side of the motorway.
On the second night they showed actual newsreel of the rail scene which showed it had electrification in place and 4 tracks.
I can forgive the last two. |
