When we exhibit our caravan we, as do a lot of other owners, like as much as we can to have the old girl fitted out with all period items. We have been looking out for a period electric kettle for ages. Mainly at car boots and ebay. Usually the ones we have seen for sale are either battered to death and don't work or are on sale from owners who think they are worth thousands. Well I was browsing ebay just before Xmas and purely by chance came across an auction for a Swan kettle that was new old stock. But it came off at 11.15 pm, so was it worth staying up for, I took a chance and waited till it was nearly ended and popped in a bid. No other bidder put in any bids so got it for the asking bid of £14.99. What a bargain!!!!!!
I did a bit of research online and it’s a model made from the late 1930’s to 1960. This particular kettle dates from 1956, and is complete with box. The corrugated cardboard of the box had delaminated, but I was determined to restore it , as it must be extremely rare. So I used PVA glue slightly watered down and stuck it all back together again and I’m pretty proud to say its looking very nice and solid again. The kettle just needed a polish. I used Autosol cream to give it a good polish and its come up gleaming like chrome. So all in all, well pleased.
Anyone else picked up any nice items to go with their caravan lately?

Nice to see period items, I suspect your kettle will have the old round BS3283 socket? hope you got a lead with it, because, these days the those leads cost a fortune!

If you plan to use it get an electrician to test the insulation, some of the early leads didn't have an earth, with no earth and poor insulation the kettle case can become live, or at least interesting!!

The leads can sell for £70! Shocked so you got a real bargain! Very Happy

I've seen quite a few vintage / classic caravans wired up for mains from new, the oldest was a 1930's Winchester. Mostly the more expensive models offered this option.
