It's interesting and surprising that it has a central throttle in a vehicle as late as 1947! Other Ford commercials that I'm aware of from that period had the conventional layout.

Peter,
When I started my apprenticeship in 1956 the place that I worked had one that was probably only a couple of years old at that time. Very confusing thing to drive for a novice.

Thanks Art,
I was speaking to someone who had recently driven a vintage car so equipped. He said the trick was to drive with you left foot parked over the clutch, giving your right foot nowhere to go (leftwards) in an emergency.
