I used to drive one of those converted to a recovery truck back in the early 1970's, virtually the same as the Austin K9 engine wise. Very unstable on a wet road, I remember hitting a large puddle with it and my fellow mechanic following me said that it reminded him of a Swan landing on a frozen lake, the wheels appeared to go off in all directions until I regained control of it! Classed by the military as a one tonner, the larger Bedford RL 4X4 was three ton payload.

Pete.
