Good evening once more, this was the big one by far. We entered the event many months ago amidst running problems which got worse as the year went on as I wrote about previously. Although fitting heat shields around the mechanical fuel pump and below the carb appeared to have sorted things out, just in case I fitted an electric fuel pump at the back adjacent to tank . A cautious 18 miles prior to the big day went without incident, so giving Bertie`s fuel gauge a heart attack by putting in £20 the night before, I guess we were ready...
The event was huge..540 vehicles were about to embark on the run, hundreds more on static display, vintage buses providing free transport to and from the event and thousands of people were flocking in to witness all..
we were there early, and trouble free..
My better half, Judy, was in good spirits.. I was having kittens, still unconvinced Bertie`s troubles were behind him..
Here we are leaving the NAC after a long wait to exit stuck in a queue of course as there were so many taking part. It turned out the long wait was partly due to several break downs including an early `50s Prefect which had been struck down with Bertie`s problem of fuel starvation and sadly couldn`t take part in the run. There is no way I could put 540 pictures of the participants on here, so I`ll just show a few that caught my eye :
....and Bertie did us proud. 50 miles around the beautiful warwickshire countryside, through lined streets of people waving and cheering with flags and smiles. We eventually returned after a perfect run..
Here I am, relieved after all that could have gone wrong DIDNT go wrong..and the sun shone down..
..and finally, a surprise. We were about to head off when a sound I know very well was heard by all from above..a single engine Rolls Royce Merlin growling at speed in low level mode. We were treated to an all too short display by the magnificent Spitfire. Days don`t come much better. Thanks for reading.

You looked a little lonely in the first shot but from the other shots clearly that was deceptive. Nice photos and some lovely vehicles there.
Thanks for posting.

Looks like a great show and a lovely setting. No long grass or puddles. Great photos and your wee Ford is a credit to you. Well done. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Very interesting pics - the Sunbeam G 190 I knew a few years ago in a previous owners hands and is one of the last proper Wolverhampton cars. I'm afraid though the Bugatti isn't!!! (if you see what I mean). _________________ Jonathan Butler
