Classic car meeting Haarlem last Sunday, nice meeting.
René
There were many more cars to admire,i only toke pic's from cars i think are real classics.
In the Netherlands we have a problem,if a car is 30+years old it's road tax free, now old mercedeses and beemers from the '80s are imported from germany and sold as tax free cars.........they are mainly bought by young punks, pimped and without maintenance they disturb the neighbourhood because they can ride cheap an expansive car.
By law these car are classics,in my eyes they never become a classic with their plastic bumpers an all electric goodies........a car is classic by design, not by age
Picture 2 shows what i mean, behind the green truck you can see such a classic mercedes
How do you guys think about this?

Hi René.
Great pictures! I particularly liked this one.
I don't know what the tax is in Holland but the tax in the UK is small compared to using a thirsty petrol car as every day transport so anyone doing it here is not really doing it to save money.

In one of the clubs I am a member I mentioned,
I don't classify it as a classic unless it has wings, the answer I got was "yes we noticed with your photos"
I grew up when a lot of todays so called classics were everyday cars and filled the scrap yard.
I am starting to look at them in relation to "how many left".
Austin Metro is one such car, ?not a classic? then I think not many left and it was a popular car in it's day.
What galls me is moderns, not even ten years old and still in production, filling spaces that could be used for !Classic! cars at Classic car shows. |

In Holland you have to pay a road tax,the more your car weight the more you pay,if it is a diesel you pay almost double and if it is running on LPG you pay even more.
So a car what weighs 2000 kilo running on LPG can cost you about 2288 euro every year.
When this car is 30 years old it is tax free
Also insurance,a normal expansive car cost a lot,but when the same car is "oldtimer"you can have insurance for 50 euro's a year.
LPG and diesel are cheaper fuels then petrol.
This is why big Beemers and merc's are so popular, they put in an LPG tank and ride a big luxurious car for little money.
Good thinking i hear you say,the problem is that there are so many of these cars being imported that the green politics are moaning about polution and suggesting the tax benefits will be made history.
The real oldtimer enthousiast will be not happy ,then he has to pay road tax for every car he owns, even when he drives it once or twice a year.
