I have a '68 Stirling and it is fitted with a brake servo, this looks like an after market item and is designed to help pull the overun brakes on. I have never connected it to a vacume supply as i can lock the brakes under sharp braking without it, when pulled with either my Morris lorry or the Zephyr 6 farnham. Has anyone ever used one befor and what would the advantages be _________________ Nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing!! |

I have just bought a 1981 Castleton Roadsman which is fitted with vacuum assisted brakes in the form of a bellows fitted to the brake rigging. According to the club it is an after market add on. I intend to tow the van with my 1966 MKIII Zodiac in which case I was thinking off using a fuel/vacuum pump from a MKII coupled to a vacuum tank from an early MKIII. All I have to do then is link the brake demand to the vacuum tank!!
I suspect its purpose is to stop the overrun brake from oscillating giving the van braking in advance of the car.
Another possibility is that if the bellows is connected directly to the inlet manifold, when you take your foot off the throttle the manfold depression is enough to operate the bellows so that the van is braking on the over run? |
