Does anyone have some images of early Tankers, especially in the UK, and when they were introduced? I saw photos of a late 1920's Pratt's motor spirit Ford AA Tanker which is probably the earliest i've seen, other than a 1919 GMC Oil Tanker at the Great Dorset Steam Fair this year. Made me wonder after seeing the diecast Ford Model T petrol tankers that i've never seen photos of the real thing

Sorry Rob, I can't help with U.K. vehicles, but here firstly is a Kiwi one-

Captions of the above- "'Big Tree' petrol tanker alongside S Wright & Co, carriers of Wanganui, circa 1920s. Photograph probably taken by either Frank J Denton or Mark Lampe."

And here is one in Oz.

Title for the above- " Title : Shell petrol tanker filling a ' Visible ' petrol bowser at Woodgers and Calthorpe garage Giles Street, Kingston
Date : 1926"

IMHO the diecast Model T tanker models are well off target. The ones that I have seen are all brass-radiator models which makes them 1916 or before, so unlikely to have really been built as such.

Uncle Alec,

My cousin's husband, a guy named Gerry Heggarty rebuilt the Labbatts cab bodywork. Originally from Scotland he emigrated to Canada in the mid- fifties. A panel-beater by trade he took up teaching bodywork. A fantastic tradesman.
