|
|
Hi
I was once looking for either a block and tackle or a engine crane, well my idea's have come on a bit since then, and I am not looking to purchase a mobile lifting Gantry, about 10 or 11 foot high, about the same wide, with a capacity of 3 or 4 ton ideally.
I am wondering if anyone knows anywhere worth trying, other than ebay, which I am keeping a very close eye on.
I am also not ruling out making one yet, if anyone has made one in the past, has any ideas or comments, please speak up.
Cheers

I think you would be better fabricating one yourself, the chances of finding one that is both the spec you want and not the other side of the country must be quite low.
I did once use 2 cheap scaffold tower's with a scaffold pole clamped across the top of both towers. It was to change the engine on a Bedford CF van, where you had to lift the van body "over" the engine. This set has the added benefit that it could be dismantled, the same tower was used in a different set up when I sprayed the van
You would probably need something more substantial than a scaffold pole across the top for the lumps of metal you play with! but the towers would be ok.

If you are thinking of lifting 4 tons, then scaffold poles and clips are out.
A 4 ton rated gantry would need designing to have a breaking strain of close to 8 ton.
Google "Gantry Cranes" and images have some designs and ideas. |

Thanks for your input, I am thinking of making a heavy static one, the dear bit is the Caster wheels it seems, a concrete block made one obviously static, or I do have a few feelers out with companies, who supply sell them, some being more helpful than others I add.... I give up with some so called companies... |

I like that!
I could lift the Roller, and all my other toys all at the same time with that! That Diesel must be 90 ton or more...
On the other hands I am not feeling very flush looking at that! Anyone want to pay for it for me, oh and a shed to put it in... |

Hi
Right, time has come, bite the bullet and start thinking of making one.
Anyone have any idea where to start on calculations for the steel/design, else I will make it so heavy, it will never move!
Cheers
