They are held in London...Birmingham and Bristol so why not NEC Glasgow. With the number of classic car owners up here that it would be a success. Who could I write to and find out if it is possible. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Isn't the NEC show held only at the NEC? |

I think "marina estate" means the SECC (Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre) in Glasgow. This is where, in Scotland, you get all the big events. Effectively it's our NEC. |

Sorry, not heard of the SECC (I must get out more!).
The Bristol Classic Car Show is held at the Royal Bath & West Showground at Shepton Mallet and I don't know of a show in London after Ally Pally stopped. |

All these shows are organised by event companies that look to return a profit, its not the locations that organise them.
What you need to do is convince a promoter that he wont loose money shelling out on a large exhibition venue, most of these shows have started smaller and grown, so pick a current large Scottish show and convince them to make it bigger
Simples!

How about contacting the SECC and tell them what's missing from their calendar, a classic car show!

That would be a good idea. Maybe we could do something to incorporate the new transport museum. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Probably the SECC would want guarantees on how many cars would be in attendance, and that is something that no one could guarantee. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

I must admit, I have rarely been to an indoor event. I used to go regularly to Belle Vue in Manchester (when it still existed) and went to the G-Mex for something once. I also went to the NEC back in about 1988 (did it exist then?).
All of these indoor shows seemed to rely mainly on trade stands for their income. they often had an auction and some car clubs put on displays.
I didn't think these things were reliant on people like us putting our cars forward. If there is a demand for them in Scotland, and money to be made, they will be here eventually. |

That's why you need to approach a promoter, the venue owner simply rents the space out, try contacting a promotor like Andrew Greenwood's they promote indoor and outdoor shows all over the country.

As far as I know there's only indoor classic car shows at Bristol, Birmingham and a new one started last year at Manchester (Trafford Centre I think). Unfortunately the Ally Pally stopped before I started driving and all the others are too far away to be practical. _________________ Richard Hughes |

With all due to respect to Glasgow, population density has to be factored in to locations. Exhibition halls are notoriously expensive to hire. |

Back in the late eighties when I was secretary of the American Auto Club U.K. we did a show at the Rex Centre in Birmingham. It had a couple of sponsors who made their money back, and the club also managed to make a bit.
The Rex Centre has gone now. |
