So does that only mean you have to have a user name and password. Surely thats not too difficult. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

What I meant is that you can't say search for items listed with a date of 1920-something, ie 192* in the description. You now need to list out each year from "1920" through to "1929", separated by commas and surrounded by brackets, and include "1920s" too. Previously you could just use 192*, this affects saved searches too

This has really screwed up most of my saved ebay searches There has been some backlash from ebay users....... hoping ebay will listen as it means we all now have to type loads more info into our searches. I'm all in for them improving the search engine, but this is just a backwards step.
I suspect they have done it as wildcards probably consume more processing power!!

It would be handy if they reversed it. Surely now instead of running one search with a wildcard, lots of people who haven't sussed out grouping variations into ( and ) will simply run many different variations of a search separately, loading up ebay servers?
I've also noticed that saved searches, including descriptions, bring back "near matches" too which render some searches worthless, eg if I search for Poore, it brings back listings with the word Poor in them

I agree!
One other challenge is the 100 character restriction on a search; that may sound like a lot, but, as an example I have created some searches for the less IT literate Morris Register Members;
One search in particular is problematic; when searching for pre war Morris Minor parts its a pain because of the need to filter out as many as possible post war minor parts (of which there are 1000's), so the search included a wildacard on the date, and because the dates are often not in the title, I use the "include description" this then brings up loads of stuff that is irrelevant, so I used to use most of the 100 characters in a -(,) to take stuff out, and the search worked quite well.
I now have to use 35 characters up just for the date's (1928-1934), so its really messed up the filtering quality
This can't be good for ebay sales either

I wouldn't bank on it, many of them think a Internet purchase is the first stage to ruin |
