I suspect we have all at some point thought we could save some cash, only for it to cost more in the long term?

I recently bought a load of wet and dry paper, on offer at a well known DIY outlet...I normally get the Mirka stuff from the paint suppler, but the paper on offer was half the price....

Well it is rubbish! it clogs all most instantly... I think I used 10 times more paper...but it was of course half price....

Totally agree, I bought some sandpaper for indoors, and when you use it the grit rubs off the paper.

Years ago I bought a pair of track rod ends for my Avenger estate from TruPart ( remember that rubbish ) and they lasted about 6 weeks. Cheap as chips but rubbish.

I got two car covers from Silverline for two of my cars that stand outside.I put my fingers through one trying to fit it and the other tore taking it off.

Years ago, there was a local outfit selling "re-manufactured" engine oil.Being financially challenged at the time,I bought a 4l container of the stuff, and poured it in my Cortina. When the container was empty, there was a black sludge left in the bottom of it.
As soon as I could afford it,The oil was drained, and replaced by good quality oil.
Another "bargain" buy were cheap tail light bulbs.Lasted less than a week!
Lessons learned the hard way.
I also got caught by the "cheap" sandpaper, sold in a pack of 12,iirc.I still have some in a drawer somewhere. It 'd be better in the rubbish bin.

I'm a firm believer that 'you get what you pay for', I've bought cheap tools in the past that have lasted only days, for instance, I bought a set of spanners (6mm to 19mm) for £2.99 from lidl....no chance of rounding a bolt head with those......the rings on the spanners rounded off first Laughing

I seem to remember seeing a report about oil filters made from toilet rolls. It was demonstrated by filtering old engine oil that came out 'clean'. I think they had to actually force it through the filter under pressure.
The oil was sold as a cheap lubricant but not for cars, more for heavy machinery.
I've seen the Lidl spanners. They can be converted into obstruction spanners, just get hold of them in two hands and bend them to go round corners. If you bend them a few times they break and you've two stubby spanners for the price of one
.Bargain!.

I had a cheap 13mm Silverline ratchet spanner for my roofrack. The ratchet lasted no time at all before expiring, didn't even spin a dozen nuts on. I didn't want to get a "good" one as I thought it would probably get lost anyway... Confused
