It would be about 1985 I saw a Vauxhall Friary advertised in Liverpool. It was not MOTd or taxed. I had made arrangements with him and a deal was struck over the phone. I got a loan of a spec frame and off I went. When I got there he was not in and his wife told me it had been sold that morning. I was not a happy bunny. I probably should have phoned before I left but he seemed a genuine enough bloke. Great looking estate the Friary. However ..lesson learnt. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Last year
A Rover P4 for £300 had been garaged for five years
I sounded too good to be true, But I um'd and ar'd once to often and it was bought by someone else in the club.
Not a lot wrong with it from what I have heard. |

| Back in the early 60's I could have bought a badly knocked about 1953 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible. I thought it was too expensive at £125. I didn't know at the time only about 400 of that model were built. A restored one went for a quarter of a million dollars a couple of years ago. I have often wondered how such an expensive car came to be in such bad condition on sale in the U.K. |

January 1964 I moved into a 'flat' which was really a third of a rather old house in a Melbourne suburb. The owners lived in another third of the house and there was a very large shed out the back. The owners found out that I was interested in early cars, and remarked that they had a Hurtu in the shed. My excitement was somewhat dampened upon being told that it had been sold only a few days before.
Here is the Hurtu that got away, as it was removed from the shed before being driven away.
And here it is a few years later, fully restored.
........and to think- it could have been mine! _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |
