I hope so! I still use them. Although I don't expect young drivers to spot trafficators I do expect them to recognise extreme road positioning plus hand signals.
Peter.
p.s. At night I have no expectation but I hate seeing obvious flashing indicators on old cars. _________________ https://www.nostalgiatech.co.uk

They were when I took my test but they have not been in the Highway Code for years - they must be as obsolete as the trafficators that replaced them.
I do not know if they are part of the current driving test - I hope not as no one takes notice of or uses indicators much these days either _________________ Rover P2

The only hand signals I give are rude ones. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Not when I did my test... Practical anyway, though I think they can be tested in the Theory ?
I knew them long before that though...
I think they did them on my Cycling Proficiency test when I was learning to ride a pedal bike. Was part of Primary School, a good day out I thought at that time! |

Hi
They are still in the HC, page 103 in the latest (2007 revision)
also here http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/documents/digitalasset/dg_070566.pdf in the online edition.
Some maybe most of us still teach them though knowledge of them is now only tested in the theory test.
You will notice that the whip signals, for drivers of horsedrawn vehicles, areno longer in the HC. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

I remember doing them in my driving theory test (2008). _________________ Richard Hughes |

The only signals I see these days only involve the use of 1 finger.Oddly,in my younger days, such signals required 2 fingers.Haven't drivers got lazy |

They can be very dangerous these days. I gave a turning-left signal by moving my hand in a circular motion, for the benefit of the driver behind me.
A car coming towards me thought I was signalling for him to turn across the front of me.
I fitted clip on indicators to the 10/4 after that.
This happened nearly 20 years ago; must be worse now. _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special. I have written a book though. https://amzn.eu/d/7rwRRqL |
