Sadly in a way ... architecture from that period is currently going through a "neither chips nor rice" period IMHO .
Not modern enough to be cool and yet not old enough to be loved as retro ... Same as some of "our" cars go through too,
IF it survives for another 10/20 years it will probably attain cool wall status though it seems it may get flattened .
I have a bit of a love hate relationship with the place having spent a fair amount of time emptying the telephone boxes in it's middle of cash along with a fair slice of the surrounding area in a past life .
Thing is with architecture IF everything from a period survives then things dont move on ...and to be honest they stagnate, that said it is nice to have some examples survive . |

I grew up in Preston, my Dad still lives there. I remember this being built. I always used to wonder that other towns could manage with tiny bus stations. I recall that this was not very user-friendly as it is effectively an island. If it goes, I guess the parking might be missed. It is unique and iconic but takes up a lot of space in the centre of Preston. It cost a fortune, used up a huge amount of resources and created a lot of CO2 to construct; the same can be said of its removal.
As in all things in this world, money will dictate its future; is it worth more dead or alive? It will be missed but mainly for sentimental reasons.
Photo by my dad who doesn't like it.
