Gresham flyer's recent find reminded me of a conversation I'd had with some Morris 8 owners...the gist of which was that "original" pre war cars no longer turn up in garages or barns in a state where they can be put back on the road without major restoration. Its now the 60's and 70's vehicles that can still be found in original condition, that generally surface when the original owner passes away.

All this is anecdotal , I wondered what other members had experience of? possibly its very different in warmer climates Very Happy

Getting rarer, but not impossible. I think the Daimler I had (1934) could have been put back into operation without complete restoration. It was very solid, bar the fabric in the centre of the roof which would have needed replacement. The rest though I think could have been brought back to life without major surgery or financial pain. It had sat since the early 1960s.

The A7 special would have need a full rebuild though, having sat since 1959.

The friends of mine who re-acquired the very original Austin 8 (1947) last week would be able to put it back on the road with minimal aggro, ok not quite pre-war but close (it's a pre-war design).

What is getting harder to do is find early cars still with their long-term owners, but again they are still out there, and they're not *all* wrecks.

My Austin A35 was found in a lockup garage after I was told about the car at a club meeting.







The garage it was stored in.





And as it is now.

The car I've had that was in the previous ownership the longest was the Atlantic, the previous owner bought it secondhand in 1959. That was garaged since 1975 when I bought it. Although I didn't see the removal of the car from the garage as I bought it from a dealer, I have since driven past the garage (a smart anonymous looking double) where it once stood.

as far as i know,a '60's Ford Anglia estate still sits in the garage of a local eccentric...nobody can remember seeing it on the road.

As i mentioned in another article its the most unlikely places where you will find vehicles.
I do not think that you have to travel into the far flung depths of the rural countryside to find them.....try looking closer to home.

That very ordinary suburban property might have something tucked away in its garage or shed.

I found a stash of vintage bicycles and parts in a shed about 1 mile from my home.
