So when the new Forth Road Bridge is completed they ( whoever they are) want to name it after someone. I dont see the point of that. It should be the new Forth Road Bridge. As for the existing road bridge I dont know what is going to happen to that. Its a pity we dont have a Brunel now. He would build a bridge that would last 100 years. Look at the Kingston Bridge in Glasgow its falling to bits. How did the Victorians manage it and we cant. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

I did hear on 5 live today, that a group of Brummies want to rename Birmingham Airport ...."Ozzy Osborne Airport"
So be careful what you wish for... I suppose its no worse than being a "paranoid dreamer on a crazy train"

I like the idea of calling it ' The Second Forth Road Bridge'

Isn't the Forth road bridge problem down to corrosion of the main cables? The original Severn bridge has the same problem, which is crazy when you think that regular applications of rustproofing wax would have preserved them... |

I am with Alfanut. It should be the Second Forth Road Bridge as there is only one Forth Bridge.
You cant call it the Third Forth Bridge. This is confusing. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Not really..
You've got:
The Forth Bridge
The Second Bridge
The Third Bridge
Of course some may wish to give credit to the Kincardine Bridge..
In which case we could have:
The Forth Bridge
The Second Bridge (Kincardine)
The Third Bridge (FRB)
The Fourth Bridge
Not in the slightest confusing.
Then again, we could give the new bridge towers a phallic appearance and call them..
The Rail Bridge
The Road Bridge
The Rude Bridge
... and just ignore Kincardine.

We are very fortunate South of the Border; we only have two Severn Bridges

Should that one be the 14th bridge ?
and the Scottish bridge would be the 3/4 bridge until such time when it becomes the "Whole Bridge" aka the 4th/4th bridge ?
I seem to recall a time when life was less complicated, or is that more simple ? |
